It\u2019s the process of turning an obstacle into a way to strengthen your character.\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"quote-block__author quote-block__author--name\">\n\t\t\t\tElijah\t\t\t<\/cite>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/admin.ptcbio.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/10\/Elijah-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6785\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">Elijah, from California, refuses to let <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ptcbio.com\/our-science\/therapeutic-areas\/about-duchenne-muscular-dystrophy\/\">Duchenne muscular dystrophy<\/a> define him and his future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">When Elijah was only 15 years-old, he founded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destroyduchenne.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Destroy Duchenne<\/a>, a non-profit organization that aims to \u201dcomplete the cure\u201d for Duchenne by advancing gene-editing and gene therapy technologies into human practice. His driving force is to not only bring hope to thousands of people affected by Duchenne around the globe, but also to lead the way for his younger brother Kai, who also has this rare disorder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">But that\u2019s not all he has achieved! When he was still in high school Elijah became an intern at the local district attorney\u2019s office, through a program intended for college students. During this internship, he took part in a mock-trial and worked closely with lawyers as coaches, who he would later turn to obtain advice about setting up his organization. Determined to educate others on Duchenne, Elijah is also working on a variety of projects that he hopes will raise the visibility of the condition and empower others to use their situation to help future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">Elijah has never let Duchenne hold him back from the action. Sports have always been a massive part of his life and he is still very active in sports in all the ways he CAN be. He uses other people\u2019s negative energy and doubts as the ultimate motivation; and he knows showing people that they CAN overcome their barriers is helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">Elijah\u2019s #DuchenneCan message to others living with Duchenne is to \u201dgo and be great; don\u2019t see yourself as different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div  class=\"quote-block  color-theme--white\">\n\n\t\n\t<div class=\"quote-block__content\">\n\t\t<blockquote class=\"quote-block__text color-theme-border--white\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"quote-block__heading heading--4\">\n\t\t\t\tNo matter how big or small your suffering is, don\u2019t let it go unused, but use it to empower others and to help minimize the suffering that the future generations will face.\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"core-block core-paragraph\">Elijah\u2019s positivity and commitment to improving the lives of those within the Duchenne community inspires us.
